Mental Health Patients
Department of well-being of Mental Health Patients and their Carers:
The aim of this department is to initiate and implement interventions aimed at reducing poverty among mental health patients and their informal care givers. Being an area which is neglected and under searched in Zambia, department is also aimed at intensifying scientific research on mental care in rural and urban Zambia as a way of generating scientific knowledge to inform policy and practice on how to address the various challenges faced by mental health patients and their informal care givers. The main programmes in this department are:
1) Basic Necessities Support for Mental Health Patients:
The aim of this program is to reduce poverty among neglected mental health patients and informal care givers in rural and urban Zambia by regularly providing basic services to them. The services include provision of food, shelter, clothing, beddings, medical aid and farming inputs.
2) Remove Mental Health Patients from the Streets Programs:
The aim of this program is to remove all mental health patients who live in the streets from all the streets of Zambia by finding alternative care for them and reintegrating them back into their families.
3) Community Reconstruction on Mental Health:
The aim of this program is to empower people at all levels of Zambian society with the right knowledge about mental health, and to strengthen government policies even in work places about mental health. This is meant change negative attitudes and discrimination associated with mental health illness and their informal care givers.
4) Research on Mental Health:
The aim of this program is to consistently undertake scientific research on mental health as a way of generating scientific knowledge on how to address the plight faced by mental health patients and their informal caregivers
5) Consultancy and Training
We do consultancy work and training in mental health related issues from social sciences point of view.
