Department of Prisoners and Prisoners’ Families:

The aim of this department is initiate and implement interventions aimed at reducing poverty among poorest prisoners and their families. It is also aimed at intensifying scientific research in area of prisoners and prisoners’ families as a way of generating scientific knowledge on how to address poverty among poorest prisoners and their families.  The main programs in this department are:

(i) Basic Necessities Support for Prisoners and their families:

The aim of this program is to reduce poverty among poorest prisoners and their families in rural and urban Zambia by regularly providing basic services to poorest prisoners and their families. The services include provision of food, shelter, clothing, beddings, medical aid, water and sanitation and farming inputs.

(ii) Decongest Prisons Program

The aim of this program is to decongest prisoners in rural and urban Zambia by constructing additional dormitories at prisons, provide mattresses and beddings for prisoners in correctional facilities.

(iii) Relevant Skill and Start-up Capital Program:

The aim of this program is to empower poorest prisoners and their families with relevant life survival skills and enabling them to translate the skills into practice by empowering them with start-up capital.

(iv) Research on Prisoners and their families:

The aim of this program is to regularly undertake scientific research on prisoners and prisoners’ families as a way of generating scientific knowledge on how to improve well-being of poorest prisoners and for their families.
